Women and Money - too focused on the little things?

I've been thinking lately that many women excel at the art of the deal.  From coupon clipping to hitting the right sale, women seem great at maximising value when it comes to shopping.  But is there too much focus on smaller items and not enough on the big picture items?  I read lots of articles suggesting to cut out that Starbucks habit but consider how much of our incomes go to where we live (housing) and how we get around (transportation).  I'm a firm believer in living below your means in those two areas of life first and then once those big picture items are in order devoting time to focus on the smaller things.
